Manufacturing & OT

When the line stops, the losses don't.

Modern factories run on decades-old controllers wired into modern networks — a convergence attackers exploit to halt production, steal designs, and hold output hostage. S-Security secures your OT, ICS, and SCADA environments alongside IT, aligning to IEC 62443 while keeping the plant running.

Threat landscape

The factory-floor threat model

Production environments prize availability and safety over patching — and that gap is exactly what adversaries target.

OT/ICS/SCADA attacks

PLCs and HMIs were never designed for hostile networks. We monitor industrial protocols passively to catch unauthorized commands and tampering without disrupting control.

IT/OT convergence

The bridge between business IT and the plant is the favorite attacker pivot. We watch the boundary and enforce segmentation so a phished office laptop can't reach the line.

Ransomware on production

Halting output is worth a fortune in ransom. Early detection of lateral movement keeps the encryption away from the systems that run your machines.

Intellectual-property theft

Designs, formulas, and process know-how are nation-state and competitor targets. Data monitoring flags exfiltration of the IP that is your real competitive edge.

Supply-chain & vendor risk

Remote-maintenance vendors and connected suppliers are a common way in. We monitor third-party access into the OT environment and the integrations they rely on.

Legacy & unpatchable systems

Equipment that can't be taken offline to patch stays vulnerable for years. We compensate with segmentation and continuous monitoring built around the asset's constraints.

Compliance & standards

Engineered to industrial standards

OT security has its own rulebook. We align your program to the frameworks that auditors, insurers, and partners expect from a serious manufacturer.

  • IEC 62443 — zone-and-conduit segmentation, security levels, and lifecycle controls for industrial automation systems.
  • NIST CSF & SP 800-82 — the recognized blueprint for securing OT and industrial control environments.
  • CMMC & ITAR — for defense-industrial-base manufacturers handling controlled and export-restricted information.
  • SOC 2 & ISO 27001 — to demonstrate trust to customers and partners across your supply chain.

Scenario

A phished laptop, stopped at the OT boundary

An attacker who compromised an engineer's laptop in a manufacturer's corporate network began probing for a route to the plant floor. They found the IT/OT bridge — and that's where S-Security was waiting.

Our monitoring flagged the unusual scan crossing toward the OT segment, the SOC isolated the laptop, and our enforced segmentation meant the attacker never reached a single controller. Production ran uninterrupted, and we used the event to tighten the boundary further.

"S-Security understands that we can't just patch a PLC on a Tuesday. They secured our OT without ever putting the line at risk, and their IEC 62443 mapping made our customer audits trivial."

FAQ

Manufacturing & OT security questions

Will your monitoring disrupt our production systems?
No. We use passive, out-of-band monitoring that listens to industrial-protocol traffic without injecting packets or interrogating controllers. Availability and safety come first — our OT approach is designed around the constraint that the line must keep running.
How do you protect equipment that can't be patched?
We apply compensating controls: tight network segmentation that isolates legacy assets into IEC 62443 zones, strict access control, and continuous behavioral monitoring so any abnormal activity is caught even when patching isn't an option.
Can you secure the IT/OT boundary specifically?
Yes — it's a primary focus. We map and enforce the conduits between business IT and the plant floor, monitor that boundary closely, and apply zero-trust access so a compromise on the corporate side cannot pivot into control systems.
Do you help with IEC 62443 alignment?
We do. We design your zone-and-conduit architecture, map controls to the relevant security levels, and maintain the evidence to satisfy IEC 62443 expectations from auditors, insurers, and supply-chain partners.
